Juneteenth Pageant Corporate Info Overview

"This pageant has given me a new spark and has inspired me to expand my community involvement in the Austin and surrounding areas.  The experience has been just amazing."

Miss Juneteenth 2003

Established by the Greater East Austin Youth Association, GEAYA, the Juneteenth Pageant exists to provide personal, community, and educational opportunities for young ladies ages 5-17 to promote their individuality, celebrate their culture, appreciate diversity and participate in community activities.  It provides a forum for these young women to express their viewpoints, talents and accomplishments.

The Juneteenth Pageant began in 1996 as an opportunity to showcase the talents and abilities of the young ladies in Austin and the surrounding areas.  In 2006, a personal development and community service component was incorporated into the program.  This year we've adopted the Maggie Johnson Nursing Home,  the first established African-American nursing home in Austin, Texas, as its project.

During the mandatory practice sessions, the young ladies will have an opportunity to work with other contestants in various activities that foster the building of relationships and allows them an opportunity to express themselves in a safe and fun environment.  This element of the program will foster communication and generate a sense of self-worth and confidence.

Since its inception in 1996 the competition continues to grow and remains rich in history and social significance.  It is a forum that provides young women with a vehicle to further their personal and educational goals and instills a spirit of community service through a variety of unique community based programs.
